Before leaving, make sure your car rental representative provides you with a road map.

• From the east end of San José (Barrio Amon), take Calle Central which changes into Hwy 32. Keep straight until the end.
• After the toll and the tunnel you will pass Braulio Carillo national park. This is a new part of the road and it’s very scenic. It goes up and down the mountains through the rain forest.
• Once you have reached the low lands, the road goes through the towns of Guapiles, Guacimo and Siquirres. 60 km after Siquirres, you will reach the provincial capital city of Limón. Once you have passed the landmark cemetery on both sides of the road, make a right at the next major intersection, where signs direct you towards Cahuita.
• This is the beginning of Hwy 36, a scenic coastal road surrounded by palm trees and banana plantations. The gas station just before Tuba Creek police check point will be your last chance to fill up. You will pass the entrance of Cahuita, and later the Hone Creek crossroad where the road splits to the right for Bribri, the border with Panama. Continue straight through Puerto Viejo, and Punta Uva is 8 km further along. The entrance to Korrigan Lodge entrance is on the right side of the road and is well marked.

Public buses are very efficient and inexpensive. Departures take place from the “Gran Terminal del Caribe” in San Jose. You should buy your ticket for Puerto Viejo de Talamanca (not to be confused with Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui) from the desk inside the terminal (about $8 per person).

• Arrivals in Puerto Viejo : 10:30am, 2:30pm, 4:30pm, 630pm, 8:30pm

Once in Puerto Viejo, take the bus to Manzanillo that passes by Punta Uva. Schedules are available at the bus station in Puerto Viejo where you may buy your ticket. You may also buy your ticket form the driver. Alternately, you may take a taxi that should cost around $10. There are no taxi-meters, so you should arrange the price up front.

An original way to be transferred in or out of Korrigan Lodge would be to mix it up with a rafting adventure trip! Here is how it goes:

You will picked up in the morning from your Hotel in San Jose, Arenal or from Korrigan Lodge, the brought to river Pacuare for your rafting adventure. The bus driver will then pick you up at the other end and drop you off at your desired final destination.

This trip includes breakfast, lunch, rafting outfits and equipment and of course the guides. The rafting itself lasts 4 hours going down the river (minimum age 12). Your luggage will stay with the driver while you are enjoying the day on the river.

• This flight take off from Pavas airport in San Jose and the international flights arrive from Juan Santa Maria airport, implying a transfer from one airport to the other. Once in Limon, you would still need to be transferred to Punta Uva, which would take around 1hour and 45 minutes. In fact, you will save very little or no time at all.
